Rubik and His Cube

My oldest son has had a Rubik's cube for a number of years. Occasionally he'll get it out and play with it. We have a coffee shop friend who will give him some tips and tricks about solving it. However, it's only been recently that he finally figured it out. Now, overnight, he's become a complete whiz at solving them. He even invested his own money and bought a speed cube. Within a week or two he is down to solving it in under two minutes. He challenged my brother recently to a dual and beat him several times. (My brother owns at least six cubes of his own.)

He's continued to hone his time. And today, he began solving them in UNDER A MINUTE!

Now, as crazy fast as that sounds, he's investigated "speed cubing" and learned that speed cubers need a time under 7 seconds. WHAT?!?! He's also informed me that the current world record is 3.4 seconds. Who knows? We may have a new sport.  ; )

(The pic was lifted from my brother's collection...)
